Rev. Robert 'Wayne' Bowie, Sr., 78, husband of Emma Johnson Bowie, of Simpsonville, formerly of Abbeville, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville to the late James Neuffer Bowie and Sally Lou Holmes Bowie. Wayne was twice married, first to the late Jackye Ware Bowie and presently to Emma Johnson Bowie.
He was a retired minister who dedicated his life to his ministry of pastoring and guiding his congregations. His legacy, for those whose lives have been touched by his faithful devotion to God and the example he portrayed daily, is one which will long be remembered. Wayne was a member of Evangel Chapel in Simpsonville.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bowie and three brothers, Charles Bowie, Sr., Pete Bowie and Maurice Bowie.
Wayne is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Robbie Bowie and his wife, Tracie of Abbeville; step-children, Butch Johnson, Donna Braisher, Brian Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Brenda Johnson, Mike Johnson, Janet Thompson and Nancy Garrison; his twin brother, Wade Bowie and his wife, Jewell, of Abbeville; his sister, Leila Bowie Blanchett of Abbeville; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 11:00AM – 12:00PM, Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville. Funeral services will begin at 12:30PM on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie McCurry and Rev. Marion Argo officiating. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery.
The family is at the home of his sister, Leila Blanchett.
