Robert John 'Bob' de Guzman

Robert John de Guzman (Bob), 94, of Greenwood, SC, former resident of Beaufort, SC and prior to that a 30-year resident of Brookline, NH, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Wesley Commons Health Care Center. He was born on March 15, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John and Gertrude de Guzman.

Mr. de Guzman graduated from Duke University circa 1952. In 1971, he was a founding partner of the "Kd Hallmark" retail store in Hudson, NY, before selling his shares a few years later to his partner, Paul J. Keeler, Sr. Otherwise throughout his adult life, Mr. de Guzman worked at various positions and capacities in the warehouse industry, retiring as an executive in warehouse real estate.

Bob was a sports enthusiast with a special interest in golf. He brought a youthful exuberance to all he did, always taking an interest in the activities of his nephews and nieces and other family members. Sometimes he would show up at the house with a boat, ready to go water skiing at Copake Lake. Other times he would pull in the driveway on the Fourth of July, coming from who-knew-where, with a big box of fireworks in the trunk, ready for the night's festivities. Other times he'd hop on the basketball court with his nephews, overcoming his diminutive height with a big sky hook. Behind the wheel of a car, he had a lead foot but always seemed to talk his way out of speeding tickets through colorful storytelling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret "Peggy" O'Connell de Guzman, and their daughter, Diane Marie de Guzman. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Ellen Noiles de Guzman; a brother Robert de Guzman; and a sister Connie.

Mr. de Guzman is survived by several nephews and their wives, including P.J. Keeler (Kathy) and Brian Keeler (Martha) of Claverack, NY; Ned Keeler (Sheila) of Piedmont, SD; Robert Keeler (Denise) of Westfield, IN; and Blair de Guzman of Carolina Shores, NC. Bob is also survived by a niece, Anne de Guzman of Raleigh, NC. In addition, Bob is survived by many friends at Wesley Commons in South Carolina; in Hudson, NY; and elsewhere throughout the East Coast.

A Memorial Service will be held at the discretion of the family in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson, NY.
