Robert W. "Bob" Everett

September 21, 1931 — July 5, 2015

Robert Wayne Everett, 84, returned to his heavenly home on July 5, 2015 after a short illness at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. Bob was born on September 21, 1931 to the late Clifford and Maple Everett, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. From an early age he was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support. As a boy, Bob was active in the Scouting program; he was one of the first six scouts in the nation to receive the 'new' God and Country Award. He served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army for 25 years, retiring from the Army as an officer with the rank of Major. After retirement, he worked as a Field Representative for Equifax in Valdosta, Georgia. Bob was an ordained minister with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He served churches as an interim pastor throughout the Southeast wherever he was needed. After relocating to the Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick he and his wife became members of the McCormick First Baptist Church where he was active as a teacher and served in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Bob loved music and was active in the McCormick County Community Chorus, serving as their first president and a 50 year member of the Mine Masonic Lodge #117 in McCormick. He loved his wife Susan of 62 years and his family, working hard to provide for their spiritual, emotional and physical welfare. Bob knew no strangers and made friends quickly. He was a man after God's own heart and shared his faith in Jesus Christ with whomever would give him chance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Everett. Bob is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter Suzanne Unger and Gary, his son-in-law of Leesburg, Georgia; his grandchildren Andy Unger of Columbus, Georgia and Sara Unger of Valdosta, Georgia; his sister Norma Wilson and her husband Vernon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Gene Everett of Crawfordsville, Indiana and Paul Everett and his wife Pat of Charleston, South Carolina and a sister-in-law, Jean Wilson and her husband Joe of Hahira, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the McCormick First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A service to Celebrate Bob's life will be 11:00AM Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the church sanctuary with the Reverend Gary DeBerry and Ramona Musch officiating. Burial with full military honors will be 2:00PM Monday, July 13, 2015 in the Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Youth with a Mission, Atlanta P.O. Box 1025 Grayson, GA 30017.
