Roger Leslie "Bush" Bouchillon Sr.

September 3, 1919 — July 20, 2013

Roger Leslie "Bush" Bouchillon, 93, of Greenville, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the St. Francis Eastside Hospital. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Lee Junot & Frances Mae Campbell Bouchillon. Mr. Bouchillon attended Calhoun Falls High School and furthered his education through the military and beyond. Later in life he was known as a Civil War Historian. He enjoyed reading about different battles and traveling to see historical locations. At age 12 Mr. Bouchillon knew then one day he would serve his country in the military He served in the U.S. Army serving in two wars, WWII where he received the American Defense Service Medal and Korean War then was with the Active Reserve Unit until his mandatory retirement at age 60.His total service amounted to 39 years and two wars. Mr. Bouchillon owned and operated Bush's Furniture in Greenville from 1960 to 1977. He was a member of the Greenville Optimist Club for more than 20 years. Mr. Bouchillon and his wife were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville for over 30 years and he attended Grove Road Baptist Church until his health forced him to move to The Maples in Honea Path, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Glen, Bonnie Louie, A.E., Gil, and Hobson Bouchillon. Surviving Mr. Bouchillon are his two children; a daughter, Ruth Anne Bouchillon of Lyman, SC and a son, Roger L. Bouchillon, Jr. and his wife Lyanne of Piedmont, SC; two sisters, Leuna B. Kay and Julia B. Alewine both of Abbeville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Bells United Methodist Church 2540 Flatrock Rd. Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will begin following visitation at 2:30PM on Tuesday. Burial will full military honors will follow in church cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Bouchillon may be sent to the Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma, OK 73101. The family extends warm appreciation to the entire staff of The Maples Assisted Living in Honea Path for their love and care given to their dad these past few years.
