Roger Descoteaux, 69, of Greenwood, SC, husband of Cheryl Peck Descoteaux, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late Elzear and Cecile Lavergne Descoteaux.
A 1969 graduate of Wolcott High School in Wolcott, CT, Roger was employed with G + K Services as a truck driver, retiring after many years. An American Patriot, Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He and his wife were enthusiastic campers having memberships in FCRV and FMCA RV Associations. Roger was also a member of the American Legion, the American Legion Riders, VFW and Vets Helping Vets. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Roger is survived by his wife Cheryl, of 44 years; a son, Roger Descoteaux, Jr. (Joanne ) of Plymouth, CT; a daughter, Rheanne Descoteaux Canfield (Hunter) of Greenwood, SC; two brothers, Normand Descoteaux (Marilyn) of Palm Coast, FL and Ronald Descoteaux of Waterbury, CT; three sisters, Claudette Soden of Naugatuck, CT, Florence Connors of Wolcott, CT and Dorothy Smith (Tom) of Wolcott, CT; five grandchildren, Terry Ward, III, Sean Ward, Roger Descoteaux, III, Madeleine Descoteaux and Jayden Canfield.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel. A reception will follow the service in the Abbeville Veterans Memorial Foundation Building, 200 Long Branch St. Abbeville. A memorial service will be held in Connecticut at a time that will be determined by the family.
