Ruby Payne Lawrence, 92, of Calhoun Falls, wife of the late Harold A. Lawrence, Sr., died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. She was born in Piedmont, SC to the late John C. and Pauline Huff Payne. Mrs. Lawrence was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Forrest College in Anderson, SC. She retired, after 40 years of dedicated service, as a bank teller with First Citizens Bank. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, the Wakefield-Mahon Sunday School Class, the Calhoun Falls Golden Agers and the Calhoun Falls Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking and quilting, spending time with her family was her greatest joy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry L. Payne and a sister, Frances P. Hansen. Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her five children; Rev. Harold A. Lawrence, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Milledgeville, GA, Donald E. Lawrence and his wife, Pam of Abbeville, John L. Lawrence and his wife, Jane of Iva, Teresa Thornton and her husband, Robbie of Savannah, GA and Cynthia L. Chihasz and her husband, CP of Abbeville; seventeen grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Clint Johnson, Virgil Lawrence, Will Lawrence, Emily L. Reynolds, Marie L. Rodriguez, Donna L. Williams, Clay Chihasz, Caleb Chihasz, Jacob Lawrence, Diane T. Rendon, Robert A. Thornton, Jr., Glenn Thornton, Melissa Thornton, David Thornton, Becky Cruce and Barbara Smith; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 2:15PM in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Frank McCoy officiating and remarks by her son, Rev. Harold A. Lawrence, Jr. Burial will follow in Salem/Latimer Cemetery in Calhoun Falls. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the nurses, assistants and doctors at the Iva Rehabilitation and Healthcare Facility and Self Regional Healthcare for the love and support given to their mother.
