Rufus L. Tucker

Rufus L. Tucker, 91, of Calhoun Falls, husband of Sylvia Wilkie Tucker, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Abbeville Nursing Home.  He was born in Calhoun Falls to the late Claude Thomas Tucker, Sr. and LaRamah Campbell Tucker.

A 1945 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, Mr. Tucker was employed with the United States Postal Service for 40 years, retiring in 1990 as Assistant Post Master. He served his country in the South Carolina National Guard.  Mr. Tucker was an outdoorsman.  He was successful as a farmer, gardener and cattleman.  A charter member of the Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, he participated in the Stark Cann Sunday School class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Thomas Tucker, Jr.

Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife of 69 years of the home; son, Louie D. Tucker (Vicki) of Easley; daughter, Teresa Bannister (Andy) of Abbeville; sister, Ramona Davis (Lewis) of Rockingham, NC; five grandchildren, Lisa Bannister, Hannah Epting (Bert), Rachel Bannister, Zach Tucker (fiance'- Katherine Poston) and Drew Bannister; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kaye Bellamy of Holden Beach, NC.

The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls Chapel.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Frank McCoy, Sr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Latimer Cemetery.

The family is at the home in Calhoun Falls.
