Russell A Fleming

January 13, 1971 — August 29, 2019

Russell A. Fleming, 48, of Greenwood, husband of Dianne McElrath Fleming, died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Hospice House in Greenwood.  He was born in Abbeville to Samuel and Sandra Norris Fleming.

Russell, a 1989 graduate of Abbeville High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Lander University in 1995 and was a proud member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.  He was an associate with Fujifilm as a TE/GRL Technician for 11 years until his health declined. Russell, a passionate NASCAR fan, also enthusiastically supported the Abbeville Panthers football team.  Riding his motorcycle was a favorite past time, especially hours spent riding across country to visit with his special uncle, Edgar Norris.  His caring personality included a genuine appreciation for animals.   Russell, a dedicated member of South Side Baptist Church, shared his musical talents by playing guitar and singing in the choir.  His life exemplified courage, tenacity, and faith.

Russell is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dianne; his parents, Sam and Sandra, of Abbeville; a step-son, Jeff Latham (Kayla) of Greenville; a brother, Greg Fleming (Kerry) of Abbeville; two sisters, Janet Campbell (Trampus) of Donalds and Jennifer Fleming of Due West; four nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Te, Samantha (John Robert) and Brooke; and a very close uncle, Edgar Norris of Washington State.

The family will receive friends from 3:00PM – 4:30PM on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel.  A Celebration of Russell’s Life will begin at 5:00PM in the Abbeville First Baptist Church Christian Life Center.

The family is at the home in Greenwood and at his parent’s home in Abbeville.

In lieu of flowers, Russell’s family respectfully requests donations be sent to The Humane Society of Greenwood, PO Box 49776, Greenwood, SC 29649 or to South Side Baptist Church, 505 W. Greenwood St., Abbeville, SC 29620.
