Ruth Napier Ferguson Ashley, 80, of Abbeville, wife of Maxie D. Ashley, died Friday, January 15, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Abbeville County to the late Monie E. and Lotus James Napier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Ferguson; a brother, Marion E. 'Squeaky' Napier; and grandson, Glenn Ferguson. Mrs. Ashley retired from the Rocky River Plant with 35 years of service. Each spring and summer, she grew beautiful hanging baskets which everyone admired. Mrs. Ashley frequented auctions and yard sales, often bringing home a new found treasure. She loved her family and cherished time she spent with them. Mrs. Ashley was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ashley is survived by her husband of 45 years of the home; children, Tommy Ferguson (Cheryl), Billy Ferguson (Miriam); Jane Purdy (Harold), Wayne Ashley (Jannie), Melvin Ashley (Nancy Fortner), all of Abbeville; and Ann Strickland (Tildon) of Honea Path; brother David Napier (Allie) of Anderson; sister-in-law, Ruby B. Napier of Abbeville; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00pm, Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church with Rev. Darrell Fetzer and Rev. Christopher Meyer officiating.
