Sam A Ferguson

October 9, 1922 — February 10, 2010

Sam A. Ferguson, 87, of Abbeville, husband of Elizabeth Crawford Ferguson, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Willow Creek Living Center in Iva, SC. He was born in Abbeville County to the late John P. and Maggie Adela Nance Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson was a lifelong member of Bells United Methodist Church where he was former Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee and Church Treasurer. He served as a Staff Sergeant during WWII in the United States Air Force where he received five battle stars and the Medal of Jubilee of Liberty for his service to our country. Mr. Ferguson also was a devoted member of his community. He served 20 years on the Abbeville County Council and served on the Abbeville County School Board from 1956 - 1974. He was a charter member of the Antreville Fire Department and was an active member from 1977 - 1997. Mr. Ferguson was a Mason with membership at the Dew Drop Lodge #266. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Wallace Ferguson and Curtis Carroll Ferguson; three sisters, Ellen Ferguson Eakin, Margaret Ferguson, and Molly Jane "Billye" Ferguson; and a grandson, Thomas Michael Faulkenberry. Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Barry Ferguson and wife Angie of Abbeville; three daughters, Nancy Faulkenberry and husband Tom of York, SC, Debby Muller and husband Lee of Columbia, SC, Becky Stevens and husband Jim of Columbia, SC; a brother, Herbert H. Ferguson of Abbeville; ten grandchildren, Kelly Cheek and husband Bill, Brian Faulkenberry and wife Amy, Elizabeth Muller, Lucy Muller, Philip Muller, Will Stevens, Molly Stevens, Anne Marie Ferguson, Samantha Ferguson, and Thomas Ferguson; and three great-grandchildren, Anna Wallace and Libby and Thomas Cheek. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Bells United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
