Samuel Scurry Horne, 83, of Abbeville, husband of the late Emily "Sweetie" Williams Horne, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Mr. Horne was born in Greenwood to the late Sam & Ida Harberson Horne. Scurry retired from the Abbeville City Fire Department after 15 years' of dedicated service. He worked with the Abbeville Recreational Department under Claude Simmons, was a tile contractor and a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Scurry was also an avid golfer. On most every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, you could find Scurry playing in the 'Dog Fight' at the High Meadows Country Club where he was a longtime member. On other days, he could be found fishing with his close friends. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother to all that knew him. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Surviving Scurry are his five sons, Gary A. Horne and his wife Clare, Samuel S. Horne, Jr. and his wife Marijon, Greg Horne and his wife Anne, Adam 'Knocker' Horne and his wife Tracy and Jeff Horne and his wife Donna all of Abbeville; a sister, Laler H. Palmer of Greenwood; thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at 12:00PM at the Lebanon Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Horne and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military and fireman honors. The family is at the residence.
