Samuel 'Sam' G. Thomas

Sam Thomas, 38, of Greenwood, SC, husband of Courtney Lewis Thomas, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was born in Greensboro, NC to Wanda Scott Thomas and the late Timothy ‘Tim’ D. Thomas.

He graduated from Abbeville High in 2004, and received his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Lander University. His talent for storytelling and visual media led to him co-founding Bessie Productions, where he would bring characters and stories to life on the screen, whether it was a short film for the Lander Film Festival, which he won six times, or a service line documentary for the Mme. Curie Society.

Sam was a man of many passions, but none more so than his two wonderful children and loving wife. They were the center of his life, his focus, his purpose. Sam liked to consider himself a Skilled Domestic Engineer and Wife Coach. When he wasn’t drawing shapes with pancakes, leading family sing-alongs, or styling his wife, Sam was an incredible musician, songwriter, poet, filmmaker, photographer, painter, mechanic, mason, and the list goes on. He had the uncanny ability to excel at anything he set his mind to. A most loyal friend, but always a humorist, he would not hesitate to settle a random argument by sharing a picture of a fish he caught that was bigger than yours.

In addition to his father, Sam was preceded in death by his beloved American bulldog, Miles Woogerson Thomas.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife Courtney; two children, Samuel Shepherd Thomas (6) and Clover Jean Thomas (4); mother, Wanda Scott Thomas of Abbeville, SC; four brothers, Dale Thomas, Jr. (Karla), of Fremont, CA, Andy Thomas of Abbeville, SC, Scott Thomas (Haley), of Greenwood, SC, and Boyd Thomas of Palo Alto, CA; sister, Mary Kelley Lingefelt (T.J.), of Anderson, SC; father- and mother-in-law, Mike and Sherri Lewis; and brother-in-law, Conner Lewis (Elizabeth), all of Greenwood, SC.

A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home. The family will greet friends immediately following the celebration.

The family extends their appreciation to all the friends and family who have shown their love, care and concern.
