Sarah Elizabeth Fain, 42, of Statesboro, GA, died Monday, April 3, 2017, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA. She was born in Hendersonville, NC to George Ramey Fain and Marilyn Botts Fain. Sarah was a 1992 graduate of Eastside High School, Greenville, SC. In 1996, she received her B.A. in Leisure Studies and Recreation Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in 1998, her M.S. in Recreation Administration/Sports Management from Georgia Southern University. From 1999 to 2002, Sarah was the Assistant Director for Intramural Sports at Sam Houston State University Recreation in Huntsville, TX. For the past 15 years, she was the Intramural Sports Director for Campus Recreation and Intramurals at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She was a member of The Honor Society of Phi Beta Kappa, a dedicated UNC Tar Heel fan, had a love of all things pop culture, was an avid trivia fan, and loved game nights with her friends. She also loved music, especially hits from the 80’s and 90’s. Sarah was an active member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) for the last 17 years and served as the Tournament Director for countless state, regional, and national extramural tournaments. She traveled all over the country serving the National Championship Series at their events and was honored by the NIRSA with the 2014 Annual Service Award. Sarah was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Marion and Estelle Botts of Abbeville, SC; paternal grandparents, George R. Fain Sr. of Hendersonville, NC, and Mary Louise Ratchford Fain Siegler of Abbevllle, SC and her aunt, Linda Botts Jacks. She is survived by her mother, Marilyn Botts Fain of Greenville, SC; father, George Ramey Fain and stepmother, Becky Fain of Waynesville, NC; brother, Christopher Ramey Fain (Jennifer) of Greenville, SC; stepsister Jill Britt Hunt of Norfolk, VA, four nieces and nephews that she adored: Emily, Kylie, Jacob, and Aaron Fain. The Fain family is particularly grateful to the circle of friends, colleagues, and medical professionals who supported Sarah during her battle. They extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Eli Penn and his practice; Dr. Harsh Bhushan, her friends, America Minc, Michele Martin, Gina Schmidt, Brooke Turner and the “Texas Mafia”, Jerrod Jackson, Brooke Turner, Darci Doll, Brian Mills, and Anna Castilo for their love and support of Sarah. Graveside Services will be 2:00PM, Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Long Cane Cemetery, Abbeville, SC with The Reverend Robert D. Fain, Rector, Church of the Good Shepherd, Augusta, GA. officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sarah’s birthday, Monday, May 1st, at 5:30pm at the Recreation Activity Center at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.
