Sarah 'Sue' Moragne Richey, a beloved member of the McCormick community, peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on August 20, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at her residence. Born on October 20, 1930, in Bordeaux, South Carolina, Sue was the daughter of Peter B. and Naomi Beard Moragne.
Sue, affectionately known as Mrs. Sue, was a woman of strong character and unwavering faith. She was a graduate of McCormick High School and a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. When circumstances allowed, Sue also attended worship services at Willington Presbyterian Church.
Together with her late husband, David Willis Richey, Sue owned and operated the Rocket Service Station for an impressive 40 years. They built not only a successful business but also lasting relationships with their customers, becoming a cherished part of the community.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Sue was preceded in death by her step-mother, Annie Belle Moragne, and her sister, Peggy Goff.
Mrs. Sue leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her two sons, John Henry Richey (Amanda Timms) of McCormick and David Wesley Richey (Roxie) of Seneca. Her memory will also be cherished by her brothers, Allen Moragne of McCormick and Freeman Moragne (Jeanette) of Lincolnton, GA, as well as her sisters, Betty Lou Holman (Bob) of North Augusta, GA, and Mary Aycock (Ronnie) of Bordeaux, SC. She will be affectionately remembered by her seven grandchildren, Daniel Richey (Sara), Michael Richey (Brittany), Alishia Richey, Heather Richey, Michele Leslie, Clarice Hannigan, and Sherie Mikowicz along with her ten great-grandchildren.
The Richey family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Harris Funeral Home in Abbeville. A graveside service will take place at 11:00AM on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery in McCormick with the Reverend Lee Kennerly will be officiating.
