Sherlyn Ellis York

Sherlyn Ellis York, 73, of Calhoun Falls, wife of Ronald ‘Ronnie’ K. York, died Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her home. She was born in Abbeville to the late John B. Ellis and Lizzelle Bryant Ellis.

Sherlyn was a graduate of Calhoun Falls High School, Class of 1969. She enjoyed a dedicated career as a cosmetologist, retiring on June 30, 2022, after 50 years of devoted service. Her skillful hands and warm smile touched the hearts of countless clients over the years. Sherlyn was a confidant, a friend, and a source of support for many. Her work went beyond appearance, reflecting her deep love for people.

Sherlyn’s commitment to her work and community was evident in all aspects of her life. She served with passion and devotion as the Executive Director of the Calhoun Falls Chamber of Commerce from 1985 to 2015. Sherlyn proudly received the Piedmont FCL Leadership Award and was honored as the Calhoun Falls Personality of the Year in 1992. She was also greatly involved in the Calhoun Falls Old School Reunion committee, where she cherished reconnecting with fellow community members and celebrating their shared accomplishments.

A faithful member of the Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, Sherlyn’s spirit was reflected through her involvement, where she was the President of the Calhoun Falls United Methodist Women’s group. Her love for her church, community and family were hallmarks of her character and she will be missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Sharon Ellis Allen and brother, William Leslie ‘Bigfoot’ Ellis.

Sherlyn is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronnie, of the home; daughter, Angela (Jason) Kracht; sister, Bennis (Tim) Ellis Burden, all of Calhoun Falls; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Dylan) Alexander and Davis Kracht; two great-granddaughters, Luciana Iris Alexander and Piper Jean Alexander; six nieces and nephews, Andy (Valerie) Fleming, John (Sunshine) Ellis, Leisa (Michael) Ulrich, Clint (Leslie) Burden, Allan (Heather) Burden and Amos Fleming; sister-in-law, Gloria Bonds Ellis; and numerous extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends 12:00PM – 1:30PM, Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church sanctuary. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM on Saturday in the church sanctuary with Rev. Dr. Frank McCoy, Rev. John Ellis and Rev. Allan Burden officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

The family is at the home of Kaitlyn and Dylan Alexander in Calhoun Falls.
