Steve William Mahoney, 59, of Troy, SC, died peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008, with his wife of 34 years, Cheryl Brock Mahoney, by his side. Steve was diagnosed in February of 2008 with cancer. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late George R. and Louise Winn Mahoney. Steve was an employee of Embarq Telephone Co. He and his wife owned and operated Indian Hill Country Store in Troy until its closing in 1996. Steve also had 12 years in law enforcement serving in Elbert, Abbeville and McCormick Counties. Steve and Cheryl spent a great deal of time enjoying their greatest hobby of being with each other, with friends, or just walking the beach with his metal detector. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Mahoney and a sister-in-law, Mary Mahoney. Steve is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of the home; brother, Douglas Allen Mahoney of Belton, SC; mother-in-law, Marian Brock of Troy; five sister-in-laws, Emily Mahoney of Hartwell, GA, Alice Brock and Eddie Brock of Troy, Carolyn Brock Lowe and her husband, Luther of Greenville, Jane Brock Moody and her husband, Kenny of Fork, SC; many nieces, nephews, friends and many young adults and children that admired and looked up to Steve as a father figure. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, Friday, August 15, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 10:00AM, Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Troy City Cemetery with the Rev. George Boyd and Ms. Fran Ward officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Floyd, Henry Ryan Deason, James Bowick, Kenny Moody, Arnold Stone and Troy Young. The family is at the residence.
