Suzanne Power Smith, 93, wife of the late Richard Franklin Smith, of Abbeville, died Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood. She was born in Korea to the late Dr. Eugene Logan Power and Willie Sue Nicholas Power.
Mrs. Smith received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Erskine College. She then earned her Masters degree in Music from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ where she met her future husband. Mrs. Smith was employed as a Nurse’s Aid while living in Kansas and later at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. For many years, she was actively involved in the community as a volunteer with the Abbeville Area Medical Center. Mrs. Smith also shared her musical talent and delight for the piano by frequently playing at the Abbeville Senior Center and other local events and churches. She was a member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her sisters, Lula Johnson Power Mueller and Mary Carrington Power.
She is survived by her children, David Graham Smith (Claudette) of Abbeville and Lula Power Stephens (Doug) of Wichita, KS; three grandchildren, Kristen Stephens (Jason Curran), Tommy Mitchum and Rob Mitchum (Kim); and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 6:00PM, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Abbeville Presbyterian Church in the Telford Parlor. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 6:00PM in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. Greg Henley officiating. A private committal will follow in Melrose Cemetery.
