Theron Franklin Dixon

Theron Franklin Dixon, 88, husband of the late Sarah G. Dixon, of Abbeville, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Abbeville Nursing Home. He was born in Anderson to the late James H. Dixon, Sr. and Gertrude Brown Dixon. Mr. Dixon attended Clemson University until he voluntarily joined the United States Army. He served as a medic during WWII having defended our country on D-Day and at the Battle of the Bulge. Because he considered his service a privilege, he refused to be awarded the Purple Heart. After leaving the Army, Mr. Dixon was a professional wood-pattern maker. He was past Commander of the American Legion Post in Anderson, a member of the VFW, as well as the 40 & 8, a division of the American Legion, in Anderson. Mr. Dixon was of the Baptist faith. For 25 years, he pitched batting practice for the Anderson American Legion baseball team and also coached Little League. He was well known as an excellent cook, especially appreciated for his 'famous' hot dogs. Mr. Dixon was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. He expressed his love for his wife by writing her a love note every day for 64 years. He will be remembered as a devoted father who cherished his daughter, Jeannie. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James 'Doc' Dixon, Jr. and Carl M. Dixon. Mr. Dixon is survived by his daughter, Jeannie Dixon Agan, and her husband, Buddy, of Abbeville; a grandson, Dr. Jimmy Agan, and his wife, Trish; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Caroline, James Patrick and Abbie. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Agan home, 44 Agan Road in Abbeville. Dr. Agan will be present and all are invited to visit. Graveside services will be 11:00AM Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Agan officiating. The family is at the home of Jeannie and Buddy Agan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Dixon, may be sent to the Faith Home Ladies Facility, P.O. Box 188, Abbeville, SC 29620. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Abbeville Nursing Home for their love, care and support for their family.
