Thomas Henry McCord, 88, of Stevenson Rd, husband of Anna Lou Loggins McCord, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Abbeville Nursing Home. He was born in Abbeville County to the late Ben & Rebecca Anderson McCord. Mr. McCord was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 60 year life member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #3 A.F.M. Mr. McCord was a charter member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder Emeritus, cooked for the men of the Covenant for 15 years and was a former Sunday School Teacher. He retired as a volunteer fireman with the Cold Springs Vol. Fire Department after 35 years of service. For many years he served on the board of directors and was treasurer. Mr. McCord worked for the Abbeville Milliken Plant as a supervisor and then at Park-Davis for a number of years. He retired as a maintenance supervisor from the Abbeville County School District. Mr. McCord was a former member of the Long Cane Cemetery Association and was the grounds caretaker for 15 years. Henry was a master gardener, loved watching his plants and vegetables grow then enjoyed sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. Surviving Mr. McCord is his loving wife of 65 years of the home; three daughters, Susan Weeden (Art) of Columbia, SC, Betty Summer (Mike) of Batesburg, SC and Jannie Ashley (Wayne) of Abbeville, SC; a brother, Albert McCord (Joretta) of Abbeville, SC; four grandchildren, Will Tiller (Kristy), Tracy McCoy (Chris), Ben Ashley (Jessica) and Rebecca Timmerman (Bret); five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Monday, May 14, 2012 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tom Cartledge officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with military honors.
