Thomas 'Tommy' Burton

Thomas I. ‘Tommy’ Burton, 82, of Greenwood, SC, husband of Patricia ‘Patty’ Nobles Burton, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Abbeville, SC on July 16, 1942, he was the son of the late Thomas Franklin Burton and Eugenia Pearman Burton. 

A graduate of Abbeville High School, Tommy attended Anderson College for two years and IBM School in Charlotte, NC for two years. Following his education, he served in the SC National Guard for four years. Employed with the CSX Railway in Abbeville, SC, Tommy retired as a conductor with 39 years of dedicated service. 

A Mason and Hejaz Shriner of Clinton Lodge # 3 in Abbeville, SC, Tommy was a member of a number of community organizations which included the SERTOMA Club and the Seaboard Retirement Workers of Abbeville where he served many years as president. A loyal member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Pairs & Spares Sunday School Class where he was the class president for many years and an usher.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his former wives, Ruth Burton and Elizabeth Miller Burton.

He leaves behind to mourn his death, but to celebrate and rejoice in his transition to his new life, his loving wife, Patty, of the home; daughter, Ivey L. Busbee; granddaughter, Hunter Jackson (Logan); great-grandson, Seb Jackson all of Abbeville. Tommy is also survived by five step-children, Roddie Slovensky (Terri), Laurie ‘Doll’ Morris (Bill), Susan Littleton (Eric), Tommy Miller (Debbie) and Scott Miller; ten step-grandchildren, Matthew Morris (Leslie), Billy R. Morris, Jared Morris, Brittany S. Griffin (James), Jessica S. Bagwell (Russell), Kimberly H. Harrison (Davis), Chelsea H. McKeever, Hunter Hill (Alanna), Emma Adkins and Jaysea Adkins; and 17 step-great-grandchildren, Madison Morris, Judson Morris, Trace Tice, Tucker Tice, Lily Griffin, Baylor Bagwell, Jack Morris, Ellis Morris, Jaxon Harrison, Sullivan Harrison, Madden McKeever, Aspen McKeever, Griffin McKeever, Howard Hill, Dustin Morris (Syndey), Christian Morris (Emma), US Marine Corps and Mason Morris, all of Moody, AL.

The family will receive friends 12:30PM – 1:30PM, Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Greenwood, SC. Funeral services will begin at 2:00PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville, SC
