Tommy Ray Burden

Tommy Ray Burden, 59, husband of Donna Perry Bell Burden, of Calhoun Falls died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home. He was born in Abbeville to Charles S. Burden and the late Betty Jordan Burden. Mr. Burden was a graduate of Calhoun Falls High School. He was medically discharged from the United States Navy after many years of faithful service to his country. While serving, Mr. Burden was a Chief Boatswains Mate; as well as a First Class Navy diver and former Seabee Construction electrician. After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Burden graduated from Trident Technical College where he received his RN and BSN. During his nursing career, he worked at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston and most recently, at the Abbeville Nursing Home. Mr. Burden will be remembered as loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Burden. He is survived by his wife of the home; his father of Calhoun Falls; a son, Justin Charles Burden, and his girlfriend, Michelle Tucker, of Calhoun Falls; a brother, Charles Michael Burden, and his wife, Diane, of Anderson; a sister-in-law, Rita Burden, of Calhoun Falls; a grandson, Dagon Lee; three nieces, Jamie, Jennifer and Michelle Burden; a dear friend, William McCall; and countless extended family and friends. Graveside services will be 2:00PM Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Jerry Dalton officiating. No formal visitation is set, but the family will receive friends at the home, 609 Rice St., and at his father's home, 526 Jackson St., both in Calhoun Falls. Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Burden, may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
