Tommy Eugene Mitchell

July 25, 1943 — February 14, 2009

Tommy E. Mitchell, 65, of Abbeville, husband of Ann Sinner Mitchell, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Anderson, SC to the late George F. and Cinderella Harris Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Wren High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from Steris (formerly Amsco) with 37 years of service. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Piedmont, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emily M. Parks and two brothers, George F. Mitchell, Jr. and Roy Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 42 years of the home; three sons, Courtney Mitchell of Pelzer, SC, Hardy Mitchell of Raleigh, NC and Scott Mitchell of Abbeville; two brothers, Rev. Marion Mitchell and Herbert Mitchell; five sisters, Mary M. Allen, Pauline M. Bennett, Nellie M. Bulick, Doris M. Holland and Sarah Mitchell; and two grandchildren, Cade and Carma. At the request of the family, an informal devotion service will begin at 6:30PM in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 23, 2009. The family will receive friends following the devotion service until 8:30PM in the funeral home. A Celebration of Tommy's Life will be held Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 2:00PM at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 135 Reid Rd., Piedmont, SC with the Rev. David Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request memorials be sent to the Shiloh U.M.C Local Missions Fund, 135 Reid Bagwell Rd., Piedmont, SC 29673.
