Tommy Lee Slay, 69, of Abbeville, husband of Susan Uldrick Slay, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. Born in Abbeville, SC, he was the beloved son of the late Sallie Mae Turman Slay. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School and retired after 22 years with the City of Abbeville Public Works Department. Mr. Slay was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Many days, Tommy could be found at Hwy. 28 Farm & Garden where he enjoyed spending time with the guys catching up on all the news and solving the problems of Abbeville County. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Timmerman; four brothers, James, Allen, Samuel and Billy Slay; three sisters, Helen Smith, Viola Smith; and Earline Richey. Tommy is survived by his wife of 50 years of the home; a son, Greg Slay (Sandra) of Greenwood; two daughters, Tracy Grant (Eddie) and Pam Timmerman (Pruitt) both of Abbeville; a brother, Johnny Slay (Carolyn) of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Samantha Timmerman, Chesnee Gray, Dustin Slay (Jasmin), SaraClayton ‘Shug’ Timmerman (Michael Tiller), Jacob Slay, Kendall Timmerman and Maggie Grant; three great-grandchildren, Rylee-Beth and Jax Tiller and Coleton Slay; special extended family, Amber, Harper, Mary-Emma and Trace; and his cherished dog, Scamp. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:30PM on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM on Friday with the Rev. Jason Wilson and Mr. Shannon Sutherland officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Serving as Pallbearers, will be Louie Richey, Ken Slay, Jason Uldrick, Trace Andrews, Ed Andrews and Yancey Slay. Honorary Pallbearers, will be T-9 (Roger Wilson), David McMahan, Marion Suggs, Kenneth Campbell and Allen Patterson.
