Rev. Tye Sorrow, 90, of Abbeville, died Friday, May 04, 2018 at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. Rev. Sorrow was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Rev. George Watson Sorrow, Sr. and Moddie Clark Sorrow.
Rev. Sorrow served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then began his career as a banker in Georgia and was employed there for many years. After accepting the call to the ministry, Tye was ordained by the Congregational Holiness Church which he served for the remainder of his life. He was respected, appreciated and loved by congregations throughout the southeast. His life was exemplified by the focus of his message which was preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Nathaniel Sorrow, Seth Sorrow, Rev. Gaines Sorrow, Rev. George W. Sorrow, Jr., Rev. John W. Sorrow, Jack Sorrow and Joe C. Sorrow; and two sisters, Eva Mae Batson and Grace Elizabeth Jenkins.
Surviving Rev. Sorrow are a wide circle of nieces, nephews and two very special people, Drayton and Lisa Freeman who took care of him in every respect.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM 8:00PM Monday, May 7, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Rev. Tye Sorrow will be 11:00AM Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronald Wilson and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00PM in the Pentecost Chapel Holiness Church Cemetery, 389 Steven's Grove Church Road, Lexington, GA 30648.
In lieu of flowers, Rev. Sorrow respectfully requested, memorial contributions in memory of him be made to the Congregational Holiness Church Building Fund, c/o Debra Bowie, PO Box 946 Abbeville, SC 29620.
