Lt. Col. Henry G. Maeger, U.S.M.C. Ret., 88, of Abbeville, husband of Marion Sumner Maeger, died Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. He was born in Canton, GA to the late Henry and Elma L. Garner Maeger. Lt. Col. Maeger was a member of the Truro Church in Fairfax, VA and attended the Trinity Episcopal Church in Abbeville, S.C. He was a retired veteran with the U.S. Marine Corps serving in WWII. During his service he received many rewards including a Bronze Star with Combat "V"; a Purple Heart and the President Unit Citation with 3 stars. Lt. Col. Maeger is survived by his wife of 65 years of the home; four sons, Henry Van Maeger of Bryan, TX, Stephen Brett Maeger of Salt Lake City, UT, Charles Bradford Maeger of Jacksonville, FL., and Franklin Sumner Maeger of Abbeville, SC.; three daughters, Marilyn Archuletta of Watertown, NY., Carolyn Maeger Looney of Mobile, Ala., and Marlene Maeger of Settle, WA; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A Celebration of Lt. Col. Maeger's life will be Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 4:0PM to 7:00PM at his residence, 295 Oakridge St., Abbeville. His remains will be placed in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA., on Friday, October 31, 2008 at 11:00AM.
