Velma Young Lawton, 86, of Abbeville, wife of the late Eugene P. Lawton, Sr., died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Magnolia Manor in Greenwood. She was born in Abbeville to the late Robbie and Fannie Lou Wells Young. Mrs. Lawton was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rocky Lawton; her brother, Robert ‘Bobby’ W. Young, Jr.; a sister, Thelma Lou Campbell; and a brother-in-law, ‘Wimp’ Ferguson.
Mrs. Lawton is survived by her late son Rocky’s children, Chris Lawton (Rachel), Shane Brown (Kimberly), Andy Lawton (Niki) and Jamey Lawton (Melissa); her son, Wallace Lawton (Lorene) and their children, Tammy Cobb (Tony) and Gina Beauford (Will); daughter-in-law, Deborah Lawton; two sisters, Judy Ferguson and Joyce Hedden (Ted); a sister-in-law, Frances M. Young; fourteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 4:00PM, Friday, August 7, 2020 in Melrose Cemetery with Mr. Will Beauford officiating.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Lawton.
