Violet Jean Watson Shaw

Violet Jean Shaw entered peacefully into rest surrounded by family on November 13, 2023 at Mansions Assisted Living in Alpharetta, GA.  She was born in Abbeville, SC on May 25, 1933 to the late Ruby Vaughn Watson and Alvin Watson.

Jean later moved to Augusta, GA where she spent over 60 years rearing and caring for her family. Her home for the last four years was the Renaissance Independent Living Facility in Due West, SC, before moving to be closer to her son in Alpharetta, GA.

She was a member of the West Acres Baptist Church in Evans, GA. After obtaining a nursing license, Jean worked at Gracewood State Hospital and later at the Augusta Health Department. From an early age and throughout her career Jean had a heart for others in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. All will remember her for her enduring and selfless devotion to family and as a treasured friend.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, John Calvin Shaw, and two sons, John Calvin Shaw Jr. and Dennis Keith Shaw.

She is survived by her son Tony Shaw and wife, Jenny, of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Patrick Shaw and wife, Corey, of Cary, NC; Harrison Shaw and wife, Courtney, of Charlotte, NC; Ashley Shaw and Valerie Shaw of Evans, GA; five great grandchildren, Riley, Blakely, Scottie, Millie, and Mabel; a sister Vera Bagwell of Greenwood, SC and brother Billy Watson of Walhalla, SC.

The family will receive friends 12:00PM – 1:00PM, Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Shaw, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
