Virginia ‘Jenny’ Kerns Campbell lived a long life to the extraordinary age of 95. As the daughter of Hamilton Kerns and Virginia Ward Kerns, she was the third of nine children. Jenny grew up in Greenville and graduated from Welcome School. She married Wallace Campbell, Sr. of Greenville and was a loving mother to her two sons, Wallace, Jr. and Johnny. In her lifetime, Jenny was also a grandmother of five, great-grandmother of eight, and great-great-grandmother of three.
She was always the life of the party, adored jazz and swing music, enjoyed dancing and never met a stranger. Jenny was always ready with a joke or a silly story to make people smile. She worked hard, loved her family and was dedicated to her friends and her church. Jenny was a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide and New Orleans Saints football fan and could shout at the TV with the best of them.
Jenny had an incredibly generous spirit and was eager to help anyone she could. She left an indelible impression everywhere she went, right up to her final days, when she was greeting the hospice nurses by blowing them kisses and telling them she loved them. Jenny will live long in our memories.
She passed away on October 2, 2018 and is survived by three of her siblings, her sons and their families and a long list of descendants.
