W. Rayford Strawhorne, 93, husband of the late Rebecca Fleming Strawhorne, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at NHC in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville County to the late Lemuel M. and Janie Sharpe Strawhorn. Mr. Strawhorne served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. He was the oldest member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church and retired from the Abbeville Milliken Plant after many years of service. Mr. Strawhorne was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Rebecca Stone, Frances Inez Strawhorn and Mattie McClain; and six brothers, Joe, Sam, James, Paul, Callie and Andrew Strawhorn. Surviving Mr. Strawhorne are many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family extends grateful appreciation to the caring and thoughtful caregivers, Linda, Kay and Gail to Mr. and Mrs. Strawhorne while they were home. Also, the family appreciates the care and attention from medical doctors and staff of NHC in Greenwood for almost two years. The family will receive friends at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00PM in the church with the Rev. Christopher Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
