Walter Blaine Asper, also known as "Bud", 86, of Abbeville, SC died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was born in York County, Pennsylvania to the late John Blaine and Grace Erlean Uffleman Asper. During the Great Depression, Bud's parents moved the family to the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania settling in Haneyville, PA. The family grew to include six brothers and sisters. As a young man, Bud served in the Army in World War II. Afterwards, he married his sweetheart, Betty Mae Bonnell and they started a family and a saw mill business in the small town of Waterville, PA. He was the owner and operator of W.B. Asper Lumber Company and Fort Big Pine Hardware and Gift Shop for many years. He also operated a saw mill here in Abbeville for many years supplying Stoll Trailer Inc. with oak decking from 1983 until recently. He was well loved and respected by all as a businessman and individual. Bud is survived by two daughters; Kathy Asper and Susan Asper Sipe and son-in-law Ray Sipe all of Abbeville; three brothers, Paul, Bill, and John and a sister, Grace all of Pennsylvania; and his loving dog "Babe". He will also be greatly missed by all of his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Bud was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Larson and Lois Hibbler. Memorial services will be held at a later time in Waterville, Pennsylvania.
