Walter Roy Cooper, 75, husband of Joyce Cameron Cooper, of Abbeville died peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Greenwood to the late Roy W. and Melba Timms Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a graduate of the Boys High School in Anderson, SC; Anderson College and Erskine College. He served in the United States Navy and was employed as an engineer with Flexible Technologies. Mr. Cooper retired from Cooper Trucks and Equipment and was co-owner of the former Strawberry Patch in Abbeville and Greenwood. He served as the first director of the Greater Abbeville Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Abbeville Gideon Camp, the Clinton Masonic Lodge and was an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Cooper was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Ballard. Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife of 51 years of the home; a son, Michael Walter Cooper of Fort Mill; a daughter, Angela Cooper Mullet and her husband, Myron, of Greenwood; two sisters, Virginia Chambers and her husband, Steve, of Starr and Durean Dyar of Easley; a brother-in-law, Bill Cameron and his wife, Judy, of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Joyce Marie Mullet, Anna Grace Mullet and her fiancé Jay Jordan, and Myron Cooper Mullet; an extended family member Ms. Mamie London and a host of friends and extended relatives. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Monday, February 28, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3:00PM Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Fastenau and the Rev. Alvin Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. The family is at the residence.
