Wayne Gary

Robert Wayne Gary, 75, of Troy, husband of Cyndi Dansby Gary, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Self Regional Healthcare.  He was born in Abbeville to the late James R. Gary and Oveline Stewart Gary King.

Wayne honorably served his country in the United States Navy.  He was a 1966 graduate of Abbeville High School and member of Lower Long Cane ARP Church where he served as an elder. Wayne retired from GTE/Verizon after 35 years of dedicated service.  Following retirement, he worked as a contractor for WCTEL for 10 years. Presently serving on the Little River Co-op Board of Directors and as Fire Commissioner for Bethia Volunteer Fire Department, Wayne was a former member of the McCormick Country Club. He enjoyed serving the community and spending time with family and friends. Wayne could often be found feeding his cows, cooking a low country boil for the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce or the McCormick Historical Society for their yearly oyster roast. He cherished his loved ones above all else and found great happiness in creating lasting memories with them. One notable tradition he cherished dearly was his annual shrimping trip with his family in Charleston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Pete King.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cyndi, of the home; two daughters, Kelly G. Jones (Kevin) of Troy and Allyson Chrisley (Roger) of Abbeville; two brothers, Ronnie Gary (Beverly) of Greenwood and Tommy Gary (Joann) of Ware Shoals; a sister, Susie King New of Abbeville; six grandchildren, A.J. (Jessica), Ashley (Jimmy), Dalton, Alex, Maggie, and James; two great-grandchildren, Annie and J.T.; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family will receive friends 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville Chapel.  Funeral services will be 3:00PM, Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Lower Long Cane ARP Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
