William Bennett Beverly, 84, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at his home in Due West, SC. He was born on December 31, 1930, in Jenkins, KY, and grew up in Clintwood, in Dickenson County, Virginia. His parents were William Monroe and Grace McFall Beverly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank E. and Jack Monroe Beverly, and a sister, Grace Beverly Edwards. Mr. Beverly graduated from Dickenson Memorial High School, Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN, and earned his doctorate in nuclear physics from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Beverly worked for the Federal Government in Washington, DC and Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland for many years, and after retiring moved to Due West and taught at Erskine College, Anderson University, and Piedmont Technical College. He was a member of the Greenville Presbyterian Church in Donalds, SC, and the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club in Greenwood, SC. He greatly enjoyed gardening, and playing tennis for many years with friends in Due West and Greenwood. Mr. Beverly is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Geele Beverly; four children: Lynne Beverly Staggs (Mike) of Bar Harbor, ME, Victoria Rose Beverly of Rockland, ME, Benjamin Beverly (Sandra Klausmeyer) of Ellsworth, ME, and Grace Beverly of Greenville, SC; and two grandchildren, Grayson Everett Staggs and Bennett James Beverly. The family expresses their appreciation to the Health Related Home Care organization, Hospice Care of the Piedmont, neighbor and friend Pam Showalter, and special friend Libby Nicholson for their caring and help.
