Sgt. William Derrell Fleming, SCANG, RET., 65, of Abbeville, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. He was born in Abbeville to the late Donnie B. & Laurie Jones Fleming. Sgt. Fleming retired from the BASF Corporation after serving 37 ½ years with the South Carolina Army National Guard in the Alpha & Delta Company 111th Signal Battalion in Abbeville. He also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sgt. Fleming was a 1965 graduate of Abbeville High School and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Fleming and a nephew Thomas Michael Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Betty F. Fleming of Abbeville; a daughter, Angie Fleming of Iva, SC; a brother, Tommy Fleming and his wife Marion of Honea Path; and a sister, Donna F. Wallersteine and her husband Robert of Los Gatos, CA. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00PM on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Hansel officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Iva City Cemetery.
