William Fredrick ‘Fred’ Pruitt, 59, formerly of McCormick, died Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Poinsett Rehabilitation Center in Greenville. He was born in Greenwood County to the late William ‘Bill’ Austin Pruitt and Dorothy Smith Pruitt.
Fred graduated from Long Cane Academy in McCormick, class of 1979, and the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy in 1985. He served as a Lieutenant with the University of South Carolina Police Department and as head of security for the Carolina Coliseum and the Kroger Center for the Arts.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a brother, James ‘Joe’ Pruitt.
He is survived by his two children, Amanda ‘Mandy’ Pruitt and Austin Pruitt of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Ginger Pruitt Littlejohn (Al) of Seneca and Anne Pruitt Brown of Greenville; two nieces, Meri Heather Acton (Duey) and Angela ‘Angie’ Littlejohn; three nephews, Pruitt Brown, Hunter Brown, and Cooper Littlejohn; and two great-nieces, Brooke Gibson (Cameron) and Blaire Acton.
A family graveside service to celebrate Fred’s life will be 3:00PM, Sunday, December 27, 2020 in the McCormick City Cemetery with Rev. Mike Evans officiating.
