William "Bill" Horton Jr.

William M. 'Bill' Horton, Jr., 86, of Calhoun Falls, husband of Frances Dansby Horton, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood. Mr. Horton was born in McCormick to the late William M. Horton, Sr. and Maggie Brewer Horton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a daughter Susan McCurry and her husband, Dale; a brother, Bobby Horton; and two sisters, Kathleen Mabry and Mageleen "Maggie" Weaver Simpson. Mr. Horton proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the South Carolina National Guard having served with Co. A 122nd Engineering Battalion for over 20 years. Mr. Horton was owner and operator of Horton Repair Service. He served his community as a member of the Calhoun Falls Fire Department for over 30 years and was a former Chief of the department. Mr. Horton was a Mason and a member of American Legion Post 72 for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years of the home; a son, Billy Horton and his wife, Anne of Abbeville; two daughters, Lisa Allen and her husband, Frankie of Columbus, NC and Carol Cartledge and her husband, Mark of Elberton, GA; two brothers, Manley Horton and his wife Betty Jo and David Horton and his wife, Judy all of Abbeville; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 12:30pm – 2:00pm Monday, September 21, 2015 in Harris Funeral Home Calhoun Falls Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with full military rites. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.harrisfuneral.com.
