William M. ‘Bud’ Powell, 86, of Lowndesville, husband of Margie Spires Powell, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Abbeville County to the late Malon and Flossie Mitchell Powell. Mr. Powell proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea. He was avid gardener and shared his bounty with the community. In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Powel; two sisters, Glenda and Mary Frances Powell; and a granddaughter, Karson Taylor Simpson. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Margie of 66 years of the home; three children, Dianne Powell Wells (Michael) of Starr, William M. (Buddy) Powell, Jr. of Kentucky, and Sheryl Powell Simpson of Hartwell, GA; a brother, Ray Powell of Iva; four sisters, Elease McMahan of Lowndesville, Barbara Thomas (Earl) of Lake Secession, Linda McCall (Doug) of Calhoun Falls and Peggy Yeargin (David) of Lowndesville; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 3:00PM on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Lowndesville Pentecostal Holiness Church where his mother was a founding member. Funeral services will begin at 3:30PM on Sunday in the church sanctuary with Rev. Scotty Willoughby and Rev. Jerry Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. The family is at the home of his daughter, Dianne and Michael Wells, Starr, SC.
