William C. "Bill" Prince Jr.

William C. 'Bill' Prince, Jr., 91, of Abbeville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Richard Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson. He was born in Abbeville County to the late William C. Prince, Sr. and Lillie Mae Bradberry Prince. Mr. Prince was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Erskine College Class of 1947 and graduated class valedictorian. He and his brother John opened Prince Brothers Real Estate and Contractors in 1951 and were in business for 60 years. Mr. Prince was an avid cattleman having won a national award with his Black Angus cows. He was one of the founding directors of the Bank of Abbeville, served on the Little River Electric Co-op Board of Directors, active in the Abbeville Opera House many years ago, served as a S.C. Highway Commissioner and was a true champion for Abbeville County. Mr. Prince was a devoted member of Midway Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and on the Building & Grounds Committee. He was very instrumental in the design and building of the present church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John M. Prince. Surviving Mr. Prince are Betty B. Pruitt, Billy Pruitt (Melanie), Jim Bradberry (Linda) and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM Friday, May 16, 2014 at Midway Baptist Church. Graveside services will begin at 3:30PM on Friday in the church cemetery with the Rev. Chad Charles officiating. Serving as active pallbearers will be Matt Horne, Jim Bradberry, Tommy Bradberry, Joey Wilson, Willie Mills and Bob Parker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the PH Healthcare – Hospice for Veterans, 102 Commons Blvd., Piedmont, SC 29673 or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
