Wilma Powell Canfield, 80, of Abbeville, wife of the late Leonard ‘Pete’ Canfield, died Friday, April 28, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Ware Shoals to the late Lewis Richard and Cora Ferguson Powell. Wilma was a member of the Abbeville High School Class of 1955. She was employed with the J.P. Stevens Plant and retired from Milliken & Co. – Abbeville Plant after 17 years of service. Wilma was a member of the former Abbeville Pilot Club and the Free Baptist Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Powell and sister, Rachel Copelan. Wilma is survived by her two sons, Dwayne ‘Bubba’ Canfield and Rick Canfield and his wife, Debbie, all of Abbeville; two daughters, Valerie Ashley of Ware Shoals and Danette New and her husband, Kenny, of Hartsville; twelve grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. The family expresses love and appreciation to Kim Alewine, who lived with her grandmother and was devoted in caring for her. The family will receive friends 2:00PM – 3:30PM, Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4:00PM, Sunday, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Langdon Erwin and Rev. Kenneth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family is at the home in Abbeville.
