Zemriah A. "Z.A" Brown Jr.

Zemriah A. "Z.A." Brown, Jr., 83, of Abbeville, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Self Regional Medical Center. He was born in Abbeville, SC to the late Zemriah A. & Leila Sorrow Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of Southside Baptist Church and had retired from the Abbeville and Sharon Milliken Plants after 47 years. He was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Army. He was a sergeant with the Company 'A' 772nd Tank Battalion, which was the 1st Battalion to cross the Rhine River into Germany. Mr. Brown was proud of his service to his country serving in WWII he received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good conduct medal and the WWII Victory Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Joseph H. Brown, Fate Brown, Ezra H. Brown, and Wallace R. Brown; and a sister, Mamie Lee Brown. Surviving Mr. Brown is his companion of 61 years, Amelia Ann "Jackie" Brown; two sons, Wayne B. Brown and his wife Tammie Simpson Brown of Abbeville and Steve Brown and his wife Donna of Greenville; a daughter, Gale B. King and her husband Julius of Abbeville; a sister, Elizabeth "Snook" Ghant of Lancaster, SC; ten grandchildren, Theresa G. Mabry, Susan Gwen Thompson and her husband Brandon, Kristi B. Newton and her husband Johnny, Robbie B. Hanna and her husband Daniel, Craig Brown and his wife Fran, Aaron W. Brown, Nicole R. Brown, Brandon C. Blackwell, Damien C. Blackwell and Megan Thrift; eleven great-grandchildren including one special great-grandson, Cody Thompson, who was born on his Paw Paws birthday. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 7:30PM Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery with military honors. The families are at their respective homes.
